Rights Clearances for SWISSCOM

Swisscom AG is a major telecommunications provider in Switzerland. Its headquarters are located at Worblaufen near Bern.  The Swiss Confederation owns 51.0 percent of Swisscom AG. As of the end of 2015, Swisscom had around 21,000 employees and generated revenues of CHF 11,678 billions. In 2008, Swisscom acquired its five millionth NATEL customer, which means that the two thirds of the Swiss population used the Swisscom mobile network and in 2013 Swisscom TV counted a million customers.

Spark supported Swisscom’s agency HEIMAT in Berlin with a number of rights clearances for a TV ad.

This included the use of footage from the Knight Rider TV series. Spark negotiated the use of footage with the US film studio and also negotiated a fee with David Hasselhoff directly for his image rights.

Spark also cleared the rights to use a Winnetou and Old Shatterhand drawing with the late Karl May’s publisher in Germany.

Also included in the TV ad was footage from the original 1970s Japanese animation series ‘HEIDI’.

Swisscom’s TV ad is about the importance of people getting together and enjoying being with each other.

Spark was in charge of the negotiations including buy-out fees and agreements.
