Music Search & Negotiations for IKEA

IKEA is a Swedish-founded Dutch-based multinational group, that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories. It has been the world’s largest furniture retailer since at least 2008. It was founded in Sweden in 1943 by then-17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad.

The company’s name is an acronymthat consists of the initials of Ingvar Kamprad (name of founder), Elmtaryd (the farm where he grew up), and Agunnaryd (his hometown in Småland, southern Sweden).

Spark was asked by Berlin based production company BIGFISH to find a suitable song and album artwork that could be featured in an IKEA ad in Germany.

Spark researched and suggested several songs within the budget and target group for the ad. The song and album chosen was Fatboy Slim’s ‘Rockafella Skank’ from the 1998 album ‘You’ve Come A Long Way Baby’.

Publishing rights had to be negotiated for the song use in the ad. Other rights included personality rights of Fatboy Slim as his name is mentioned in the ad and also the rights to use the album artwork.

All fees and agreements were negotiated by Spark on behalf of BIGFISH and IKEA.
